This is a 3-day intensive studio oil painting workshop specifically designed for intermediate level artists who are challenged with allergies, as well as those who are seeking healthier oil painting alternatives free from mineral spirits and toxic fumes. Artists who are just wanting to further develop your skills as an oil painter will also benefit from this workshop.  Due to allergies to petroleum distillates and flax, Brett has adapted his studio to an environment free from mineral spirits and linseed oil and linen canvas. Brett will focus on effective techniques and use of alternative materials such as walnut oil and bio based thinner as well as tips for dealing with the frustrations of alternative painting substrates.  Students will focus on building successful paintings through strong foundations and a bold honest approach, encouraging students to build confidence and find strength in their weaknesses.  Students will work from their own photos to help build their own personal voice. Brett will work with students to simplify their reference material and see it more abstractly, finding creative patterns to incorporate into preliminary sketches that that they will further develop into a larger painting. Brett will work individually with students and do daily class demonstrations as necessary focusing on design fundamentals of composition and drawing and establishing mood through color harmony, shapes, and values. Students without allergies are encouraged to attend but asked to be respectful of the other students and come with an open-minded approach to learning.
